Volunteer Opportunities at National Eating Disorder Association

The National Eating Disorder Association has created the Parent, Family and Friends Network (PFN) to assist families in need of eating disorder information, treatment, and ongoing support. Kartini Clinic supports NEDA in its mission to help families and their children cope with the challenges of eating disorder treatment.  As a part of PFN activities, NEDA has launched the Navigators Program. NEDA Navigators are volunteers trained to connect with people affected by eating disorders to offer encouragement, resources and hope. For more information please visit the NEDA web site.

The NEDA Navigator training focuses on defining the role of a NEDA Navigator. It will explain how to serve as a volunteer support person providing encouragement, hope and access to resources for families, friends and individuals whose lives are affected by eating disorders. Those who are eligible to be a NEDA Navigator must have a family member or friend who is significantly along in their recovery, or be well into recovery themselves. This role EXCLUDES offering medical or diagnostic advice or serving as a replacement for professional help. Participants will learn ways to reach out to their communities to offer resources and to connect by phone or email – especially to individuals/families new to a diagnosis of an eating disorder. Space is limited. All training materials are free and mailed to registrants prior to the webinar for review before the training.

The Trainer: Doug Bunnell, PhD., is a licensed psychologist, nationally known eating disorders expert and a founding member of NEDA. He will provide technical expertise and training for the NEDA Navigator program.
