Eating Disorder Recovery And Insurance
Understand your Insurance Policy
Kartini Clinic renders both medical and mental health services. Many medical insurance policies "carve out" (i.e. outsource) mental health benefit authorization and administration to a third party. We deeply regret this development in the insurance market because in our experience it leads to less coordination of care, more paperwork for families, and greatly increases the complexity of treatment. If you are considering a health plan, or have options through your employer, keep in mind that an insurance plan that takes care of all of your needs under one roof is probably preferable. This is certainly the case if you are seeking treatment for an eating disorder for yourself or a dependent.
Kartini Clinic is currently contracted with Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon (and all out-of-state Blue Card affiliates), and ODS. We are not contracted with OHP or Medicare. In many cases we can assist you in obtaining a Single Case Agreement from your insurer, which often covers some or all of the treatment at Kartini Clinic. If you have specific questions regarding insurance, please contact our business office on 503 249 8851. They will be happy to assist you.
Whether your insurer is contracted with the Clinic or not, we will try to do everything in our power to help you. We call every patient's insurance company directly in an attempt to get accurate benefit information. A paper copy of the this information will always be provided to you at your first appointment. However, we recommend patients always verify any information directly with their insurer.
As a service to our families Kartini Clinic will file all claims to you insurance company, regardless of insurance coverage. We also work with your insurance company to obtain authorization for treatment.
