Eating Disorder Clinics | Eating Disorder Programs

Kartini Clinic for Disordered Eating is the only pediatric, medically-based program in the Pacific Northwest designed exclusively for treatment of eating disorders in children and young adults. With nearly a decade of clinical experience, our pediatricians, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and therapists have evaluated and treated over 1300 patients, making them one of the most experienced eating disorder teams available anywhere.

Our program is a family-centered treatment program: we rely on the participation of parents to help us achieve remission for their child. No child will be treated without parental participation. We make every attempt to apply the very latest in evidence-based medical techniques, psychopharmacology, psycho-therapeutic methods and some non-traditional practices.

The Kartini Clinic program consists of three essential parts and, for most patients, flows as follows (although not everyone will require medical stabilization in hospital):

(a) Medical Stabilization (hospital)

(b) Day Treatment

(c) Regular Outpatient

All three elements of the program were designed to reinforce long-term treatment success. This is done through a "step-down" process. Patients usually begin with medical stabilization, then intensive day treatment -- the intensity of treatment gradually lessening as symptoms of the disease decrease in frequency and severity -- until the patient is able to maintain their healed status through regular outpatient treatment.
