Julie O’Toole, MD, MPH CEDS

is founder and Chief Medical Officer of Kartini Clinic. Dr. O’Toole is a board certified pediatrician and has been in private pediatric practice for more than two decades. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Medicine, NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association), and a certified IAEDP provider. She also has a master’s degree in public health (international health). As well as being an avid gardener and bookworm, she is the proud parent of four grown children and grandmother of three active boys and one delightful little girl.

Naghmeh Moshtael, MD, CEDS

is Kartini Clinic’s Medical Director. A board certified pediatrician, Dr. Moshtael is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a certified IAEDP provider. She completed her pediatric residency at Oregon Health & Science University and served as Chief Resident there until joining us full time in 2006. She became Kartini Clinic’s first full partner in 2009. Dr Moshtael holds a master’s degree in international studies and community health development. She is the proud parent of a daughter, and her hobbies include gardening, knitting and traveling around the world with her husband and child.

Morgan O’Toole

is another member of Kartini’s “Reed Mafia”, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Reed College in 1994 and a Master’s from Monterey Institute of International Studies. After stints in New York and London, he returned in 2003 to the greener pastures of the Pacific Northwest. After working in various positions at Kartini Morgan was appointed CEO in 2008.

Shanna Greene

is Kartini Clinic’s Chief Operating Officer. She worked in a general pediatric practice for eleven years before helping to found Kartini Clinic in 1998. Shanna has a Bachelor of Science from Portland State University.  She enjoys taking turns dancing in the rain with one of her five children and exploring Portland’s many parks.  The most recent additions to the family are two rescue cats, Malcolm and Luna.

is our Director of Intake and Human Resources. She graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and received her Master’s of International Communication at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. After finishing her degree at Macquarie she traveled around the world and has now returned to Portland with her husband to be closer to family. She loves being outside in the sun, traveling, going on adventures, playing with her dog, and cuddling her two children.

is the Director of our Business Office. She grew up in Boise, Idaho and moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and traveling.

is one of the founders of Kartini Clinic. After gamely serving in many capacities Steve retired from active duty in 2011 but continues to assist as the Clinic’s legal counsel. Steve graduated from Reed College and Hastings College of Law. He is the parent and step-parent of 3 daughters and a grown son. When he’s not in the Kartini Clinic, he paints pictures and writes poems.

is the clinic's Program Nurse. Before joining the Kartini team, she was a pediatric nurse for Legacy Emanuel/Randall Children’s Hospital for over 20 years. Sherrill has worked with the Kartini team for over 10 years and is the staff liaison between the hospital and clinic. In her spare time, Sherrill is a Disaster Nurse volunteer for the American Red Cross and most recently assisted back east with families affected by Hurricane Sandy.  Her hobbies are dancing, tennis, boating and most important spending time with her family.

Janiece E. DeSocio, PhD, PMHNP, RN

is a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and is board certified as both a family psychiatric nurse practitioner and a clinical specialist in child/adolescent psychiatric mental health. At Kartini Clinic Janiece meets with patients and parents for psychiatric evaluations and consults with the team about medication management. She is coordinator of Kartini research activities and has published a textbook chapter on eating disorders and numerous articles on psychiatric issues facing children and adolescents. In addition to her work at Kartini Clinic, Janiece is Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Associate Professor for the College of Nursing at Seattle University.

is a Family Therapist. Raised in Connecticut, she earned a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Southern Connecticut State University. Leslie has been a therapist for 16 years, working almost exclusively with eating disorders. She enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 sons, and their dog Tulip.

is a Family Therapist at Kartini Clinic.  She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in both Oregon and California.  She is Founder and Executive Director of The Peacock Foundation an animal assisted therapy program for children in Los Angeles, CA.  She is the proud trainer of a menagerie of animals all of whom visit the clients at Kartini Clinic to provide Animal Assisted Interventions.

is our Kitchen Coordinator. Lindsay grew up in Indiana and attended Purdue University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Public Horticulture. In 2006 she packed all of her belongings into her car and headed to Portland. She spends most of her time hanging out with her sweetheart, Sean, and their two cats, Hooligan and Lucile. She enjoys listening to music, singing, dancing, working on puzzles, and and wowing everyone with her extensive knowledge of song lyrics.

is Kartini Clinic's Cook. She is an avid reader. Anything she can get her hands on will eventually be read and possibly reread if time allows. She reads anything from sci-fi to historical fiction and loves books about living in foreign countries. These books fuel her love of travel.  Caitlin grew up on a small cherry orchard that her grandfather owned. Growing up next door to her grandparents allowed for an education in cooking and baking.  By an early age Caitlin was cooking for her family or helping her grandmothers with holiday baking. Living on an orchard encouraged her to learn about food. She maintains a garden every year and keeps chickens for fresh eggs. After moving to Portland Caitlin trained under a head baker and went on to manage a bakery for many years.

is the Art Therapist working in our Day Treatment Unit. Her work experience includes working with adult males at a forensic psychiatric hospital in Napa and locally with adolescents in residential drug and alcohol treatment. She received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Regis University in CO. and a Master’s in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University in OR. Her free time is filled with reading, cooking, friends, laughing, and various artistic pursuits.

is the Milieu Manager at Kartini Clinic. She earned a Psychology degree from Westminster College in Missouri and moved to Portland in 1996. Amy resides with her son Beckham, boxer Ruby and her therapy hamster named Pansy. Amy enjoys almost anything outdoors; particularly exploring Oregon’s geology. She spends most of her free time on rock collecting adventures.

Since 2013, Monica has worked directly with pediatric patients and families in inpatient and outpatient settings. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her family and friends.

is the School Liaison at Kartini Clinic. She originally hails from sunny Santa Barbara but now calls Portland home after being here for over 2 years. Jordan graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Political Science and History. Her love of educating and serving our youth has brought her to Kartini after years of working in schools and in the non-profit sector. In her free time, Jordan can be found exploring the outdoors, cross-country skiing, riding her bike, berry picking and going on adventures with her boyfriend, friends and family.  ​

is a Milieu Manager at Kartini Clinic. She is a Seattle native and recently joined the Portland community. She attended the University of Washington where she double majored in Psychology and Law, Societies and Justice. After college she worked closely with children with behavioral disorders before joining the Kartini team. She is currently a graduate student at Portland State University pursing her dream of being a pediatric therapist. In her free time, you can find her hiking the PNW, exploring Portland restaurants, and spending quality time with family and friends.

is one of our Milieu Therapists in the Partial Hospitalization Program at Kartini Clinic. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University, and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Webster University in the Netherlands. Alex has experience with case management, as well as clinical group experience serving patients with intensive psychiatric illnesses. He enjoys singing with Portland's Oregon Repertory Singers and like many people who live in the PNW, he loves hiking, camping, backpacking, river days, exploration of Portland's beautiful surroundings, and dogs!

is a Milieu Therapist in the partial hospitalization program. He earned a Bachelor’s in Studio Art & Graphic Design at Western Washington University in WA, and a Master in Theological Studies at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. He has been working in the counseling/behavioral health field since 2010. He has worked with adults and adolescents in both outpatient and residential treatment settings. Josh lives in North Portland with his wife and two kids. He enjoys reading, yoga, podcasts, playing with his kids and watching cartoons (with and without his kids).

is a Medical Assistant and Account Representative at Kartini Clinic. She was born in Bend, Oregon and moved to Portland to attend school at Portland State University, where she double majored in Russian and Sociology. Traveling to new places and learning about new cultures is one of her favorite pastimes. Stephanie can generally be found with her nose in a book, entertaining her 7 nieces and nephews, or exploring closer to home.

is one of Kartini Clinic's Medical Assistants. Originally from Hawaii, she attended the University of Washington in Seattle and now joins us in Portland to get her feet wet in the medical field before pursuing a Physician's Assistant degree.  Most recently a social worker, Sandra is passionate about helping people.  An adrenaline junkie at heart, she loves to travel, explore museums, get lost in ruins and jump off cliffs.  She's been in many theater productions, a 50/60's cover band and will karaoke your socks off.

is one of Kartini Clinic's Medical Assistants. Nick grew up in Portland, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from St. John's University in Minnesota. After graduating, he started out as one of our Research Interns, and he continues to research in his spare time here. Much of Nick's time outside of the clinic is spent playing soccer, which he has played since he was young. He also enjoys travelling and is always up for a good game of chess.

is our HR & Intake Administrative Assistant who is originally from the Chicago area. She moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon, where she received her B.S. in Sociology. Lydia absolutely loves watching all kinds of movies and playing board games. She has a strong passion for exploration and travel, and you can usually find her chasing waterfalls with friends and her beloved dog, Patches.
