Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder that has been shown in clinical studies to respond well to a treatment combination of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and anti-depressant medication. In many cases bulimia can be treated successfully in an outpatient setting. However, medical stabilization and PHP and IOP at Kartini Clinic are also available, if needed.
The most important first step, however, is to secure a proper diagnosis in order to rule out the purging variant of anorexia, a potentially much more serious eating disorder. Because these illnesses are very different, treatment for them is also different.
